First off, a few modly things!

  • Reminder: You can work on your card as long as you want! - Although we offer everyone the opportunity to refresh their card at the beginning of every month, this is NOT required! Origfic Bingo is NOT a monthly challenge (unless you choose to make it one, I suppose!) You can work on your card all year if you'd like! Whatever works for you!

  • Policy note: Monthly card request posts - We've found that it is lots easier for us to get cards out in a timely manner if the card requests are funneled through a request post: we get comments emailed to us, so it pings us right away. We try to go through all the posts to the comm, but sometimes if things pop up when we're busy or out of town or such, some slip through the cracks. So, we will from now on definitely have a monthly card request post (check out the Card Request link on the comm's sidebar, which we'll keep updated), and we really suggest that you use it to request new cards after you get your bingo. Faster card-getting all around! \o/

    ON TO THE CHATTERING!

What's this time of year about? Nanoing and holidays! So, if you were Nanowrimoing, how did it go? I totally failed to make wordcount with the fanfic I was working on, due to rl just being TOO DARNED BUSY. \o/

For those sick to death of talking/hearing about Nanowrimo, let's talk about holidays! What's your favorite? What's your characters' favorite? What holidays does your original world celebrate? :D

(I've got spacecats in my head who are looking at me funny and say that any day someone doesn't expect them to DO something is a day for laying around and having fun, so does that count?)

I didn't NaNo, but I did mini_nanowrimo over on LJ. My word count goal for November was 6000 words. I wrote just over 31500!!

I AM writing original fic at the moment - it's just not fitting in with working to my Orig Fic prompts. *sigh* Rampageous plot bunnies are rampageous AND wilful!

(I'm also doing a ton of re-reading of stuff I read for my degree a decade ago, as the current story I'm working on 'The Mysterious Lodge' is set post-WW1, but with WW1 flashbacks for the main characters. I'm also having to do new research as I don't know as much about the interbellum period as I do about WW1! Still, I love research...)

Thanks! I was chuffed! I deliberately set my goal low because I knew work was mega-crazy and I thought I wouldn't get as much written as I managed...

Darn RL - how DARE it get in the way of fandom?! :D

I stalled out on nano, hilariously, because I really LIKED the story I was working on but discovered it needed to set a while longer and if I forced it now I'd wreck it. So I reread Harry Potter instead.

Which led to December 1st being all about writing 11K of HP story ANYWAY . . . .

About September I decided that November was my deadline for grad school apps so that I could do NaNo. Then about mid-October I decided that it was more important to have a good statement of purpose instead of one I'd slapped together to have done by 1 November, plus I didn't really need another half-finished crappy first draft of something. I already have like seven of them. So I decided that I was just going to go to the write-ins that were reasonably close to me and work on bingo fic.

Which I guess is good practice for writing statements of purpose, the advice about which I've read amounts to "IT HAS TO BE PERFECT and no matter what you write, YOUR FIRST DRAFT WILL ALWAYS BE BABY-PUNCHINGLY WRONG," because I'm trying to scrabble and get the thirteen thousand fics I've started and edited half to death done before amnesty runs out.

(But you give those spacecats some work to do. They're good stuff.)

I did do NaNo WriMo and I won this year! A first in I think 4 years! It was brutal and now that I did it, I'm not sure if I'll go again next year. We'll see how that goes!
I used that time to work on the cards I got from here. It really helped out as the muses where oh so willing to play! I got some things finished that I just let.. fall through the cracks. I got to rework some other ideas and stuff for other works.

Holiday fave would have to be Halloween.
Characters.. well, so far they haven't said anything in regards to it. But it will be interesting to find out!

Thank you. Oddly, now that it's completed I don't feel superly over joyed by it. I thought I would have more of a sense of accomplishment or something. I was giddy and happy when I first just finished but now, I feel sort of along the lines of "Meh" and feeling very "that was it?"

Oh gods, no, NaNo WriMo is NOT pleasant in any fashion, unless that's your thing. If it is, well, um... great! ^_^

I think I like the idea of using that time as a dedicated period to finish up Things Not Done. There are somethings that I didn't get done, which I probably should have.. but I didn't want to force myself to work on them (the muses for those buggered off long ago and I'm trying to coax them back).

I think the second year I tried, I got maybe 8000 words. Then I just threw my hands up and said forget it. LOL

I participated in Nano and won again for the umpteenth time, despite stopping and starting twice. I wound up writing an original fic universe. I wish I could translate some of this success for my bingo cards. Or remembered the amnesty deadline. Oops. Oh well, there's next time, right?

Holidays, it's near future for this fic universe, so I presume they have the usual array. Hadn't really thought about which ones they celebrate. Something to consider along with all the other world building ideas.
