During my December 3, 2013 Poetry Fishbowl, I made a whole bingo down the G column of my new 11-26-13 card. *happydance* That doesn't happen often; usually my fills spread out more and I don't bingo until a card is nearly full. This one is about half-full, so I won't be calling for another one yet.
The following poem belongs to the series Frankenstein's Family, which you can find via my Serial Poetry page. This is gothic science fiction about an unconventional family. Victor is transgender. Igor has a hunched back. They're in a queerplatonic relationship together, and they've used science to create a son, Adam. Themes include family ties, nonsexual touch, gender issues, knowledge vs. ignorance, disability, and science.
Title: "Grotesque Alterations"
Series: Frankenstein's Family
Prompt: Disability (chronic)
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Notes: A blizzard damages Victor and Igor's home. The repairs necessitate working around Igor's warped back and its influence on his worldview.
The following poem belongs to my series Fledgling Grace. This is spiritual fantasy about what happens when humans start sprouting the wings and tails of (mostly) birds. It has themes of transformation, faith, good and evil, identity, family of choice, and avian symbolism.
Title: "Full of Grace"
Series: Fledgling Grace
Prompt: Bad news
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Notes: Maria is the first mortal to gain wings, which makes her a target.
The following poem belongs to my series Walking the Beat. Dale and Kelly are a lesbian couple living in Jamaica Plain. Dale is a recently retired policevet who walks with a limp; Kelly is Deaf. Together they work on adjusting to their new life and try to improve their community. Themes include gender, sexual orientation, community, disability, and adaptation.
Title: "Jamaican Angels"
Series: Walking the Beat
Prompt: Violence
Rating: PG
Warnings: Attempted theft, minor physical conflict.
Notes: The people of Jamaica Plain face holiday crime.
The following poem belongs to my series Fiorenza the Wisewoman. This is historic fantasy about Fiorenza, the young wisewoman of a village in Italy. Her adventures are often inspired by Italian fairytales and other cultural material. Themes include community, magic, authority, parallel religions, healing, and personal growth.
Title: "Guardians of the House"
Series: Fiorenza the Wisewoman
Prompt: Home
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Notes: Fiorenza honors the spirits of her ancestors.
Title: "The Lounge Eternal"
Series: Stand-alone
Prompt: Opinions
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Notes: What happens to gods when nobody believes in them anymore?
